Random Is As Random Does

Tuesday is one of my favorite days of the week these days.

Let the randomness begin....
randomtuesday

I ran out to the store on Sunday morning to grab a couple of things. Safeway is a hilarious place to visit early on Mother's day. Who knew?

I have never seem so many confused men with children frantically searching for breakfast foods and flowers. It was total chaos, but I'm sure many a mother appreciated their efforts.

(Disclaimer: I did get spoiled on mother's day. The boys were out on a walk and I wanted a few things. I wasn't force to grocery shop or to do any other manual labor.)

Really? - 'Footloose' revisited: Ohio Teen Suspended for Going to a Prom

A teenager went to prom with his girlfriend at a public high school and was suspended by his private school.

Apparently, his school forbids rock music, dancing and hand holding, which are just about my three of my favorite things in the world. I could never survive there.

******************

I basically ate my way through Mother's Day.

We have friends over for brunch, went out to dinner and I got my favorite chocolate.

It was delicious and totally worth every calorie.

*****************

This actually one of my biggest fears if I have another baby- Woman Gives Birth To Twins Right On NYC Street

I was in labor for less than 4 hours with my son. Rumor is it unusually goes faster the second time.

Obviously, fast labor is good, but too quick a labor might get really adventurous.

Oh so true about Mother;s Day. My hubby went to the store and he said the card section was a complete zoo! People were frantically picking through what was left! Of course, in past years that has been him, but this year he was haughty.
Yeah, that prom thing was crazy.
One of my IRL friends had her FIRST baby in a cab, in a gas station. Her entire labor was about 45 minutes. CRAZY!

So the kid can't dance, can't listen to rock music and can't hold hands but he can have a Facebook account? What gives? Don't those Baptist's know that social networking is evil? LOL! Idiots!

That's hilarious about the dads fumbling through Mother's Day. My husband did the same, he loaded the kids in the car and went to McD's before I woke up. I'd much rather have McD's than a home made breakfast so he was right on.

I can't imagine giving birth on a NYC street just because the streets there are so dirty. Yuck, I hope someone sprayed some GermX down first!

WOW. Now that is some news! I can't believe there are still schools that forbid stuff like that. Someone call Kevin Bacon!

In this day and age that OH story is unbelievable! Morons!

My second labor went FAST! Woke up with a sharp pain in the middle of the night...by the time I got to the hospital (literally five minutes away) I was at 10! OUCH is all I remember after that!

KC Mom said...

I saw some of those same Dads on Mother's Day...scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. It was like watching deer in the headlights!
Gosh...I'm Mormon and I thought we were strict! No dancing or music? Ha!! I wouldn't survive!

I love watching the Mother's Day chaos but it is usually Sat aft when the whole city is out doing the same thing..

I guess I got lucky - all 6 kids in hospital rooms! Yahoo! Done.

I don't get whole prom story. These kids are in for a shock when the get out into the real world.
Happy Tuesday!

haha! tuesday is one of my favorite days too- because of your random thoughts! i can just imagine those dads & kids at the grocery store. i'm sure there was no yelling, right?! the prom story boggled my mind- since when does your school have the right to dictate the rest of your life???

I was so relieved when I was induced. I didn't have to go through the whole am i in labor now? how about now? is this it - no. hmm... now?

I ate my way through Mother's Day, too and it was goooood!

And my hubby was one of the lost souls at the grocery store on Sunday! He got half-way through the breakfast recipe and discovered he needed more milk :)

Oh yikes, that is scary about the woman giving birth on a street. That is one of my fears too. Mainly because I need an epidural.

beth said...

too funny about the prom! i wonder if him and his best friend had a choreographed dance they did at the end.

Ronnica said...

Yeah, I'm not sure the streets of NY are quite a welcoming environment!

Amy said...

That birth rumor is wrong, I had my first in less than 12 hours and my second one took almost 24.

I ate my gut full on Mothers Day too, and I wish chocolate had been part of the menu.

I love the store story (:

Card department is way funnier... Clueless men asking each other, "You think she'd like this one?".. Men can express love and emotions, but it's as strange to them as any mystery! They know it works, they just don't know why...

Frau said...

I worked in a grocery store through HS and college and I loved Mother's Day all these husbands last minute. Same day every year, never see women last minute on Father's day never. Yeah for you and chocolate a girl aftr my own addiction!

Vivienne said...

Funny! And yes, 2nd labor goes fast. My first took 6 hours and the second took 3... the first hour and a half of which I wasn't sure it was really labor and had to go to an ER like in a really bad movie. Beware the second labor and delivery - often too fast for proper, um, pain management.

Thanks for stopping by to visit!

I read an article about that kid who was being suspended for going to the dance. The funny thing about it was that the kid had to get a guest pass signed by his own vice-principal. The vice-principal DID sign, but warned him that he'd be suspended if he went. If it was against the rules for his school, wouldn't you think the vice-principal wouldn't have signed his guest pass?

When I went grocery shopping on Sunday afternoon, the floral department was down to the shelves, there was a huge table set for cakes that just had sprinkles and glitter left. It looked like a toddler's art project gone wrong.
Too funny!

Oh, that poor boy - sounds like every Baptist church I attended - 30 years ago!

Glad you had a wonderful manual-labour-free mother's day!

I just have to say - your blog layout is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITIST BLOG LAYOUT ever. Ever! I completely love it and wish it were mine ;-).

I was terrified I was going to give birth to early in a place not specialized for birth giving!

Love all those random thoughts. How fun to eat your way through Mother's Day (especially if it involves chocolate!)

Jen said...

I love random too! And a quick labor would be scary. Just keep your legs crossed when the time comes again.

Missy said...

Sounds like you had a great mother's day.

I once heard that your second labor is about a 1/3 of the first one. My first was over 30 hours and my second was just over 10 hours.

Southern Pathways said...

LOL Yep..that accurately describes mother's day. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's nice to meet another SITSTA! :)

GreenJello said...

A friend of mine had a 2 hour labor her first child. The second one was delivered by her husband on the side of the freeway. They opted for a home birth for #3. :)

Excellent random today. I can imagine the scene at the store all too well...

I agree with you on the prom story. What the heck?

Happy Tuesday!

Dedene said...

K, you can still celebrate Mother's Day, as our's comes on June 7th. That'll give your family more time to spoil you.

kate said...

Hi! Found you thru my blog and sitsta's!! Wow, I am shocked about the high school student who was suspended from school for attending PROM! I'm sure there is a large % of those kids who either end up in a loveless marriage at 17 or on drugs walking aimlessly across Ohio. Poor kids, the school sounds cult-ish to me!
Look forward to reading more of your random Tuesdays. Thx again for commenting on my blog!

I really hope I remember to do this next week. I love lists of random stuff and I have had so little time to blog lately that all I have are little random "Twitter like" thoughts. But since I don't Tweet, I need to do this.

Loved yours by the way, espeically about Footloose revisited. If only we could all worry about dancing and handholding during the teen years.

That teenager must have a sad sad life!!

I have chosen you to be one of the winners of my first give away. (See my post at ashimmyinmyspirit.com where I have included a link back to your blog)
Could you email me so I can give you more details and the code for the gift certificate?
thanks,

I wouldn't worry about spontaneously giving birth. I have a good friend that didn't make it to the hospital on time and delivered at home. She's the only person I know whose pictures of her newborn involve two burly policemen stuffed in her bathroom. Giving birth on the street would be worse, but you'd have way more candid shots than your typical baby album.

Sandee said...

Love this weeks addition. I'm glad you ate your way through mothers day. How fun.

As for the delivery thing...Yikes. I'd not want to deliver on the street.

Have a terrific day. :)

Jeanne said...

The labor thing --- I used to worry about that, too.

Hey, have you heard from Belle lately?

Jaime said...

glad you had a good mothers day. i love watching men wander around trying to figure out what to do at the last possible second for stuff like mothers day and valentines day. HYSTERICAL

abomo said...

I, too, was spoiled on Mother's day - my favorite part? all of the "I love yous".
Cannot believe a real life Footloose exists - btw - one my favorite movies of all time - Kevin Bacon is a DREAM.
2cents - labor is labor - every delivery is different.
my randomness - google "pudendal nerve block" and you'll know how I spent the day after mother's day. And, no, no labor was involved. years beyond that...
take care - peace...Kathleen

Love the random thoughts. I feel one of those coming on. Nice way to tie up some loose ends and just say whats going on. Glad you had a nice Mothers Day. I took myself out for ice cream. With sprinkles.

Sounds like a grand way to start the day! Glad you Mother's Day was a good 1

Scary to think that there are schools "banning" rock and roll. Wow, that was some story about the woman giving birth in the street. My second boy popped out fast so I was always scared that my 3rd and 4th would do the same. Luckily, I always made it to the hospital, but I was jumpy during my third trimester.

C.B. Jones said...

Yeah, I saw that prom story on the news. They interviewed the principle...

He things dancing is pure evil.

I guess that means I'm going straight to hell for all the times I've executed my patented(patent pending) happy dance every time something good happens in my life.

Giving birth in the street?
"Uh, excuse me, ma'am. I believe you dropped something."

Sarah said...

Thanks for stopping by my blog! The lady giving birth on the sidewalk is really scary. It makes me so grateful that my hospital is 5 minutes away!

adrienne said...

That scene at Safeway does sound hilarious! The only flowers I get on Mother's Day are a couple plucked from the back yard (but at least they come with breakfast).

Keely said...

I can't believe there are still 'Footloose' scenarios going on.

I would totally be okay with a faster 2nd labor. Or if they just left out the part where they tried to induce me for a week and a half, that would be fine too.

bernthis said...

I thought they suspended him b/c they thought a public school kid was too "Beneath him" (FYI I went to public school)

Good to know they just forbid him from experiencing joy.
