Check this out - Woman gives birth after running Chicago marathon
According to the article, a woman completed a marathon nearly 39 weeks pregnant and then gave birth a few hours later.
I'm not even sure what to think about that.
She had her doctor's blessing to run the marathon. She's a very experienced runner who has now completed 8 marathons. Both mom and baby are healthy.
But..
It still seems a bit over the top. I feel like I need to stop judging, especially since my main source of exercise in my third trimester was to waddle to the bathroom a hundred times a day, but I can't really help myself.
Running a marathon super pregnant just seems like a bad idea. To be fair, I guess I should admit that running a marathon in general doesn't really excite me.
Oh - the kicker is that this is the third time she's run a marathon while pregnant. She completed a marathon last May when she was 17 weeks pregnant with this same baby and she ran a marathon in 2009 while 18 weeks pregnant with her one year old son.
The only side effect of running the marathon 39 weeks pregnant - blisters on her feet.
Maybe we should clone this gal? She must have super powers.

That lady rocks!
But makes me feel totally inadequate... it's been 17yrs since I gave birth and I couldn't even run a marathon in my imagination!
Yeah, I just don't get it. Of course when I was 39 weeks pregnant I could barely walk to the bathroom.
More power to her and if her doctor said it was okay then I guess it was okay. Marathons are so not me.
Have a terrific day. :)
I read about this woman. More power to her, but oh my goodness, that would not have been me. Of course, that would be true whether or not I was pregnant. Running simply is not my gig.
Whoa that is crazy! Talk about super woman!
I heard about this on Monday, and all I have to say is PROPS to her. I wouldn't have the guts to do that, but then I don't have the guts to do a lot of things.
WOW
That just seems like it would hurt.
Everywhere.
I read this story somewhere and it kind of bummed me out. I can't even make it to the gym most days and this chick is about to drop a baby out of her hoo haw and she's running marathons. Sigh.
I just can't even imagine doing this … even if I wasn't 8 months pregnant!
And baby arrived with the green palor of sea sickness?
I honestly didn't know that kind of thing would be ok!! By my third child, I should think my muscles would be so loose that the baby would beat me to the finish line!
I'm with you! It seems a little extreme, but that's me. I'm a runner and a mother but I can safely say I'd never run that far into the pregnancy. Heck, I wouldn't even walk a marathon at 39 weeks.
I don't love running. I can do it if a ball is involved...like basketball or softball. Otherwise, I don't want to do it, pregnant or not!
Sandy
I'm with you I can't even think of running a marathon not being pregnant...unbelievable!
I'm am missing those kind of super powers. I'm usually so ill I can barely walk around the block when pregnant.
Though I'm impressed! That's a good way to go if you feel up to it and keep hydrated.
Heard all about this and it makes me feel icky. I'm being very judgey myself and assume something must be wrong with her!
