Dear blog,
I'm sorry I'm such a fair weather visitor lately. I do love you. It's me, not you.
Things have just been a bit busy around here. It's all good things, but there are just a lot of them. I've been busy chasing the kids this summer. We've been to a lot of parks, gone on a lot of playdates, eaten extreme amounts of ice cream and all kinds of typical summer stuff. It's fun, but exhausting and when I get a few minutes to myself, I just want to read a trashy novel or stare at the wall. Some days, I just don't want to sit in front of the computer or think any more than necessary.
(As I write this my 19 month old is putting toys into my pocket now that she is done emptying my desk drawer...this about sums it up.)
Next on the schedule are two intense weeks of family bonding. My mom, stepfather, 14 year old step-nephew and 86 year old grandmother are coming into town next week and all staying with us. It should be fun, but it will definitely result in chaos. The week after we're heading to Virgina Beach with my in laws and my husband's grandmother. There parts of the next two weeks that I'm really looking forward too, but it will be A LOT of people in my house.
As a bonus, there is absolutely no way that I won't gather some awesome blog fodder.
So I am here. I'm happy and life is going well. I'm just busy living life offline right now. I'd be around in the bloggyhood when I can pull it off, but I might not be a very consistent blogger for the time being.
Love,
Me

Back in Action
So our trip was great, but I crashed landed a bit hard into reality when we returned. I’ve been trying to get catch up with work and I haven’t had much time for blogging or really anything fun, but I think I’ve got my feet under me now. So I hereby declare that fun will resume starting right now and will continue as I head out to a local restaurant for a Moms Night Out tonight for a much needed sanity break.
Anyhow, we had a blast on our mini vacay. We watched fireworks (the baby girl’s first time), hit the outlets hard (my wallet is still recovering, but my closet is oh so happy), went to the petting zoo (successful since nobody lost a finger and no ducklings were injured) and, of course, the boys went golfing. The grownups even took advantage of the free grandparent babysitting and went to see the third transformers movie in 3D. (Which was better than I expected.) Lots of junk food was eaten, pictures were taken and some classic memories were made. What more could I ask for?
It really was a nice getaway. The kiddos got a chance to send a lot of time their grandparents and we filled a lot of adventure into just a few days.
Here are a few pics of the voyage-
Have a great day!

Blasting Off
We’re packing up the minivan of coolness and heading to the in-laws tomorrow. They live near Pittsburgh. I love the ‘burgh. I feel a bit like I’m in a sitcom there with all the rabid sports fans and mullets. It’s a refreshing change of pace from DC which is a town that can take its conservative self a bit too seriously.
Plus we have big plans - the highlight for my son is grandpa’s golf cart and I’m a little overly excited about the fantastic outlet mall there. I will definitely be feeding my new found shopping addiction this weekend. We’re also planning a visit to a little local zoo where the kiddos can feed the animals and experience an old school petting zoo. I’m post some photos when we return if I get some good ones.
We have the only grandkids on my husband’s side so his family is always grateful for a grandbaby fix, even if we invade their house with enough supplies for an army of toddlers. It truly is amazing how much stuff we end up hauling along with two small kids. I’m excited to move past portable cribs and diapers. I realize that I am contributing to the over packing, but I just can’t help myself. With two little people there are just so many “what ifs” and I like to be prepared.
Anyway, we’re just about ready to go. I bought glow sticks to play with during the fireworks, craft projects to keep the boy out of mischief in a non-childproofed house, stocked on snacks and picked up “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator” on CD from the library to listen during the 5 hour drive. (We had really good luck with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory during a previous road trip so hopefully the sequel will entertain the troops as well.)
A good time should be had by all.
To my American friends, enjoy the 4th of July. I hope it’s filled with friends, family, food and, of course, fireworks! To everybody else, have a great summer weekend packed with everything good.
